Workshop
Stanford University, Wallenberg
Hall
August 1st,
2008
Stanford University’s H-STAR
Institute (Human Sciences and Technologies Advanced Research), USA
andTampere University of Technology,
Finland are organizing a research workshop for sharing findings for technical
prototypes, emerging solutions, and for exploring new collaborative
opportunities in the area of “Social Mobile Media.”
Rationale
The rapid adoption of smart phones
that integrate high quality media capture devices, coupled with trends in social
networking, participatory media and cyberinfrastructure capabilities, provides
exciting new opportunities for making mobile social media as an integral
component of distributed creative environments. In addition, social applications
have become a major new communication and networking method, both in
entertainment and for business. We expect to see mobile social media,
incorporating video, photos, and social networking and communication
capabilities to be the next vital application for the mobile
web.
Invitation:We invite
you to submit a scientific paper (8 pages) by May 23th to this
workshop. We are especially interested in empirical studies of user experiences
in mobile social media environments.
Topics
Many exciting programs of research
and development are underway within industry, universities, startups, and
thinktanks to create and study uses of social mobile media applications. In
addition to several keynote talks, we are inviting presentations representing
the following themes:
user experience in mobile social
media creation and collaboration
mobile web 2.0
mobile video story-telling
platforms
specific roles for video in mobile
learning and working
theories and applications for
modeling collaboration in mobile environments
emerging mobile video technologies
and user interfaces (e.g., touch screen based mobile devices, mobile software
development platforms)
location based mobile social media
applications
Paper
submission
If you would like to present your
work in the workshop you can send your full paper to jari.multisilta@tut.fi no later than
May 23th, 2008. Authors of the accepted
papers will notified by June 13th. Electronic submission in PDF is
required.
The workshop invites either full
papers or work in progress presentations on all themes of the conference.
Submitted papers will be evaluated on significance, originality, technical
quality, and exposition. They should clearly establish the research
contribution, its relevance to research area, and its relation to prior
research.
Full paper submissions to be
considered for publication may be up to 8 pages (including the bibliography), in
11-point font with reasonable margins and interline
spacing.
Because of the nature of the
workshop we accept papers describing work in progress (WIP) as well as original
papers. Here's a chance to present your
latest work, new projects and developing collaborations. Presenters at the WIP
session will be asked to prepare a short summary of their work (up to two pages)
as well as slides.
Accepted papers will be presented at
the conference in one of two formats: (1) a long oral presentation or (2) a
short oral presentation coupled with placement in a poster session. Presentation
format will be chosen by the program committee with the goal of encouraging
breadth and diversity among oral presentations.
The workshop materials, together
with a summary of discussions, will be posted to the web after the workshop, and
depending on participants’ interest and quality of submissions, are likely to be
developed into a book for publication.
There will be no participation fee
for presenters. Participation fee for others is 100$.
