How to participate and contribute to the SIG?

This page is meant to give you some guidance on how you can contribute and participate in the Kaleidoscope mlearning SIG.

To contribute, you need to login to the website. You can do this by clicking "log in" on the menu bar below the website header image. If you are a Kaleidoscope member, you can use your normal Kaleidoscope login. If have joined the SIG but are not in Kaleidoscope then you should have been sent a username and password. If not, then see "How can I join the SIG ?" in the F.A.Q below.

Basically, we want to make this site a useful resource for mlearning students, researchers and practitioners so please help out as best you can!

These are the areas in which you can contribute:

  • Project - Add a project
  • Events - Add a mlearning event
  • News - Add a mlearning news item
  • TeLearn - Submit to the TeLearn open archive
  • SIG mailing list - Post to the mailing list
  • SIG promotion - Spread the word about the SIG

Project page

Please contribute with a project listing that goes into our project page at http://mlearning.noe-kaleidoscope.org/projects

For submitting a new project you need to fill in a form. All fields do not all have to be completed in order to submit the form, but please provide as much information as you can. Please notice the maximum number of allowed characters for each field (includes whitespaces). These are:

  • Project Title:(max 200 characters)
  • Project Leader:(max 100 characters)
  • Partners:(max 200 characters)
  • Description:(max 1000 characters)
  • Image URL:(max 400 characters)
  • Website:(max 100 characters)
  • Email address for contact:(max 50 characters)

If you do not have an image url you can send an image to rune.baggetun at intermedia.uib.no If this is a project that has no single project leader(or no leader at all) consider just putting in the project name in the 'Project Leader' field. Please also include start and end year of the project.

Take a look at this project already in the database:

Post the details of a new project here now:

Events

Help us by contributing to the events calendar with new events. The events calendar is located here:
http://mlearning.noe-kaleidoscope.org/events.

All members that are logged in can submit new events. These go into a reviewing list before they are published by one of the admins.

Events should be mlearning related and not Technology Enhanced Learning in general. Some more general events (e.g learning technology conferences) may contain a specific mlearning track. Please then remember to mention the mlearning track and not only the conference it is part of.

Tip 1: The event calendar module has a RSS feed that you can subscribe to for easy getting notice of new events. This is the link to the RSS feed: http://mlearning.noe-kaleidoscope.org/events/?rss&ac_digest

Tip 2: You can also download an iCal file to your mobile phone (most mobile phones can import iCal files) and thus have all mlearning events in your mobile phone calendar. The iCal file can be downloaded here: http://mlearning.noe-kaleidoscope.org/events/?icalendar&ac_digest

News

We also try to post news items related to mlearning. This module is also open for members to submit. The news page is located here: http://mlearning.noe-kaleidoscope.org/news

If you submit a news item it will go into a list for one of the admins to review and then is will be published. Please remember to credit the source of you news.

TeLearn

TeLearn is the first international Open Archive in Technology Enhanced Learning. The TeLearn archive currently has 583 research publications and 85 videos. It is important that this first international Open Archive in Technology Enhanced Learning continues to grow so we as mobile learning researchers should contribute.

TeLearn benefits:

  • Archiving in TeLearn will lead to greater exposure of your work. More people will read, use and cite your work. You publish to your target audience (e.g. other researchers) without relying on a publisher.
  • TeLearn will be an important tool for organizing and structuring research in technology enhanced learning (TELE) in Europe. We see TeLearn as an important component of an e-infrastructure supporting and organizing the field. It will facilitate easier meta-studies and reviews. Enabling building on others work, interoperating with other archives, finding similar or different perspectives etc
  • The research contributions uploaded to TeLearn will be validated, reliable, and the archive will ensure sustainable safe archiving.
  • Costs: It's a publication for free! Growing journal costs today are a problem for universities as they pay for the work, the reviewing, and then they have to buy back their own work in the end as a subscription that needs to be renewed every year etc.
  • Time: TeLearn enable the sharing of most recent results with the lowest possible barriers in time and cost. Your research contribution will be available immediately (no 8 month journal reviewing that make your work outdated).
  • TeLearn enable the community and the public to use the archive as a resource in your teaching, self studies etc. Excellent searching mechanisms further enable this.

Submit your paper here:
http://telearn.noe-kaleidoscope.org

There is an FAQ to help with the process (answers questions about publishers etc.).

Read the TeLearn F.A.Q here:
http://telearn.noe-kaleidoscope.org/about

Tag your contribution:
In order for the mlearning SIG site to link to mobile learning relevant papers in TeLearn you should add the key word(s) 'mobile learning' to your submission. This makes this linking process easier to manage.

Take a look at the growing collection we are building based on TeLearn submission here: http://telearn.noe-kaleidoscope.org/browse/publications/collection/?&collection=30

Post to the mailing list

This SIG has a mailing list. You can use it to post relevant information to all SIG members. In order to post to the mailing list you need to be a member of the SIG.

The e-mail address for the mailing list is: mlearning at noe-kaleidoscope.org

Promote the SIG

Please tell others about the SIG, link to it (this will make it easier for search engines to index the site so that others find it more easily), and write a short introduction about the SIG in relevant newsgroups, mailing lists etc.
